Today marks the launch of Petals Grandparents, a brand new Facebook group specifically designed for anyone who has lost a grandchild following pregnancy or baby loss.

We know through our work with bereaved parents that grandparents have their own unique experience of grief, loss and trauma when they lose a grandchild. But they are often so focussed on their child’s grief, that they don’t seek their own support.

With this in mind – and following in the footsteps of our other successful peer support groups, Petals Together and Petals Dads – this new group will provide a safe space for any grandparent who has experienced the loss of a pregnancy or baby in their family. We hope that this will provide a place for people to meet fellow grandparents, share their experiences and offer support and hope to others.

Deb Rogers is bereaved grandmother to Poppy who was stillborn at the start of the first Covid lockdown in March 2020. She has generously shared her family’s story with us. “Everyone will feel different but I think if you were having a bad day or thought you may be able to help someone else in the same situation as us you could connect with other Grandparents… Just to know that other Grandparents could benefit from one thing that you say to help them would be wonderful.”
